Longtime U.S. men's national team member Fabian Johnson is seeking a move to MLS, according to a report.
Kristian Dyer of Sports Illustrated tweeted that Johnson, who plays for Borussia Monchengladbach of the Bundesliga, has been in contact with "multiple" MLS teams through his agent.
Hearing that Fabian Johnson's agent has talked with "multiple #MLS teams" per source. #USMNT midfielder has been eyeing MLS for several years. He will be out of contract in a few days.
Wants a DP deal but teams rate him as a high TAM (or bought down to that level). #MLSisBack— Kristian Dyer (@KristianRDyer) June 13, 2020
Johnson's Bundesliga contract expires soon and he will become a free agent. Dyer said Johnson is seeking a Designated Player contract.
Johnson, 32, has played in Germany since beginning his pro career in 2004 and has been with Monchengladbach since 2014. A defender/midfielder, Johnson has two goals in 57 appearances with the U.S. men's national team but gained his most recent cap for the team since 2017 and is not on the active roster.
