Feyenoord forward, Anass Achahbar, scored a delicious bicycle kick on Thursday night.
The Dutch Eredivisie game between Feyenoord and SC Heerenveen was already attracting interest, due to the fact that the KNVB was live-streaming a test of the new video refereeing technology, which is set to make a debut in the Dutch league next season.
Yet Achahbar made sure that the focus was purely on the football. The 22-year-old Moroccan came on as a substitute in the 32nd minute, and brought Feyenoord level in spectacular fashion in the 71st minute. No one looked more surprised than Achahbar himself to see his overhead kick loop into the back into the net.
Alas, the Rotterdam club's jubilation didn't last long, as Joey van den Berg stole the three points for Heerenveen in the 84th minute, depriving Feyenoord of the chance to close the gap on second-place PSV Eindhoven.
For veteran ex-Liverpool man, Dirk Kuyt, the defeat was particularly hard to stomach.
"De Kuip [Feyernoord’s stadium] was still completely full. I hate it." Kuyt said in an interview with Fox Sports. "It's terrible that we have suffered defeats and have been unable to rectify this in the past few weeks. This is a shame."
On the bright side, judging by this highlight reel, Achahbar could have a really bright future ahead of him. Let's hope there's another overhead kick like that in him.
