The situation at the former and possibly current, who the hell knows at this point, wretched hive of scum and vilainy that runs the soccer affairs for the whole world that we call "FIFA" has devolved to the point that the organization is now eating it own young,
In the last 10 years, no three figures have been more powerful in soccer than Sepp Blatter, Michel Platini and Jerome Valcke. If the ethics committe get their way, those three will not figure into the next 10 years.
Valcke, former FIFA General Secretary, has been sacked for the second time, and this time he doesn't have his buddy Blatter to re-hire him after eight months. Former FIFA President Blatter isn't there to help Valcke because he is facing an eight-year ban from soccer activity by FIFA, who are appealing to have that extended a lifetime ban. Former UEFA President Platini is facing a similar set of circumstances to Blatter.
Assuming none of the above work in soccer ever again, we appear to have reached a turning point in the history of one of the most blatantly corrupt organizations in recent memory. We have to wait until February to see who the new president wil be, but Platini has already withdrawn his candidacy to fight against his ban.
Platini was the heir apparent to Sepp Blatter, so this turn of events throws the door wide open for a potentially not-corrupt person to ascent to the presidency.
Should that happen, we maight actually see some noteworthy reforms (gasp!) in the way the organization is run. But probably not, because most of the candidates still in the running have ties to various corrupt activities too.
Same old FIFA.
