The summer can be a long wait for players preparing for the upcoming season, but the lot at Manchester United are filling their free time with a new hybrid sport that combines golf and soccer.
All you need is a ball and your feet, no expensive clubs necessary for this new sport that is becoming ever more popular in the UK. Manchester United sent out four of their players who split into an English team and a Spanish team.
Defenders Chris Smalling and Johnny Evans made up the UK team, and Juan Mata paired up with Ander Herrera for the Spanish team. “We kick hundreds of footballs every day in training, but it took a lot of skill and quality to get the ball in the hole, particularly after Ander slipped on the first hole!” said Mata after they finished their round of Footgolf.
The new sport is really taking off in the UK with courses across the country and opportunities to become a member and compete in competitions. It is even spreading in America with over a hundred courses nationwide. You can find a course nearest you to compete in this new craze!
