This clearance did not go according to plan. You can beat the other team, but you can't beat Mother Nature. Somtimes, when you try to beat Mother Nature, Mother Nature strikes back in the most embarassing way possible, as Mothers are prone to do, and makes you lave like a wind own goal or something.
This defender in an amateur English game found that our the hard war when he tried to send a long ball through the air during a windy day.
It did not go well.
Wind Own Goal
Special credit to the goalie on that play for having no hops at all. He looked like a small child or dog jumping for something being held up just out of reach by an adult. So close, yet so far away.
Seriously though how strong do the winds have to be to blow a soccer ball all the way into the net like that, especially one that was kicked forward? Is there any science on this? If not, can we please get some scientists that are out there working on curing cancer or stopping global warming and have them work on this instead? It's more important, I think.
