The moment that is going viral on social media came when Messi was being marked by Peru’s Yoshimar Yotún. Leo toyed with the 33-year-old sitting him down twice and then still managing to get away when reinforcements arrived.

Messi’s two goals against Peru broke the record of most CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying goals in history. That’s 31 World Cup qualifying goals and counting for him.
As for Argentina, the World Cup qualifying for 2026 couldn’t be off to a better start with four wins from four games, seven goals scored and zero conceded.
With the expanded 48-team format of the 2026 World Cup the qualifying is easier in South America now. The top six teams will all get an automatic spot in the World Cup while the seventh-place team will play in the inter-confederation play-offs.
