Well Barcelona fans, the unthinkable has happened. OK, that’s a little over dramatic, but Lionel Messi is injured.

Here is footage of the injury occurring:
He was going on one of his classic runs with the ball, cutting in from the right, after receiving a long ball over the top. A defender made a tackle on him just as he released a shot at the goal mouth; it appears that is when the injury occurred.
The Argentine used to be the example of health at its highest level, but in recent years he has succumbed to injury. From the fall of 2007 to the spring of 2014 — roughly 6 years — Messi missed a total of 28 games. From that time on — roughly a year and a half — he has missed 11, and could potentially add around 10 more to that number in the coming weeks depending on how slowly his current recovery goes.
