The Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior (Sao Paulo Youth Football Cup) is Brazil’s prime youth tournament, showcasing the next generation of young Brazilian stars.
Names like Lucas Moura and Gabriel Jesus played the tournament as youngsters.
Neymar played in it twice. Legends like Ronaldo and Ronaldinho and many others all had their turn in this youth tournament, which brings us to the point at hand. Despite the vast potential many of the athletes in this competition display, it still is a youth tournament. And youth sports provide us with some of the funniest if not saddest mistakes one gets to witness on a pitch.
This year’s edition was no different, with a blooper reel to rival the credits of a Jackass movie. Just watch this flop:
Still, there was one mistake to top them all.
Corinthians, the club with most Copa Sao Paulo titles and a barrage of talented prospects to go along with its history, finished the group stage of this year’s tournament with a perfect 3-0 record. Scoring 13 goals in those three matches and allowing only a couple into their net, they eased their way into the next round.
However, one of those two goals suffered will be one to remember for 18-year-old defender Joao Victor.
With the game very much settled and Corinthians claiming first place in their group with a 3-1 victory over Taubate, Joao Victor showed the world a whole new level of sloppiness:
It’s hard to tell if the youngster will turn out to be a great player one day, but his teammates will sure not let him live this mistake down anytime soon.
Lucky for us fans, the Copa Sao Paulo is just beginning. So get ready for many more LOLs and Ahhs.
