Things got a little out of hand during an English League One match between Oxford United and Peterborough United on Saturday. With neither side enjoying the finest of starts in England’s third tier, the awarding of a penalty in the third minute of second-half stoppage had major implications with the scores level at 1-1.
Step forward 27-year-old Oxford striker Chris Maguire. Maguire is no stranger to controversy— he once infamously labelled Scottish side Rangers “scum”, called Barry Ferguson a “p****” and Alan Hutton a “d***”.
He’s probably not the kind of guy you want to windup. So, when goalkeeper Ben Alnwick tried to put Maguire off by motioning towards the right post as a prediction of where he’d place his spot kick, Maguire just wasn’t having it.
He buries his shot inside the left-hand post and proceeds to celebrate with shameless abandon, mimicking Alnwick, diving to the floor and screaming in his face.
Not a bad way to claim three points for your side.
