On Monday January 25th, the Chicago Fire announced that Nelson Rodriguez had resigned as president of the club. COO John Urban took the place as an interim president while they look for a replacement.
“...The club is moving in an exciting direction and I wish the team, the staff and fans the very best of luck,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
The former president leaves behind a complicated legacy with the Fire. In 2017 the team returned to the playoffs for the first time in five seasons, but his involvement in a heavily criticized rebrand led to his unpopularity with fans.
