Just because hypothetical situations are fun and another big news story currently going on in sports is Derek Jeter’s retirement tour, imagine if Derek Jeter decided to come out of retirement and play one more year with the Boston Red Sox. Would New York self-destruct? There would be riots roaring through the Big Apple and people calling for Jeter’s head. Well this is kind of what is happening right now with Frank Lampard. Lampard who had been a Chelsea man since 2001 is going to play on loan for the sky-blue Manchester City uniform until March 2015 when NYCFC (New York City Football Club) will begin playing.
Lampard wanted to remain in top shape and continue playing at a competitive level during this break from the action. Thus, it only made sense to go play for Manchester City since NYCFC is co-owned by Manchester City and the New York Yankees. He did refuse an offer to play in Melbourne at Manchester City’s other new team, because it seems that if he’s going to train somewhere it must at least be in the league where he’s seen all the glory.
Even though it is a short loan, be prepared to possibly watch Lampard play against Chelsea on September 21.
