NBC out-bid networks such as ESPN (who reportedly did not submit a bid because of college football commitments) and Fox for the exclusive right to broadcast the highly lucrative league. The league reportedly told the networks to submit bids for three- and six- year contracts, and said that the highest bid must be 15% higher than the second highest in order to prevent a second round of bidding from taking place.
The news comes in the wake of the announcement that the USA network will officially share the Premier League broadcasting load. The channel will broadcast 40 games this season.
