For a few hours last night, every USA fan was a Costa Rica fan.
Acually, scratch that, we're still all Costa Rica fans because of Los Ticos allowing the USA to win Group A in the Copa America Centenario.
It looked for all intents and purposes that COlombia was going to walk away with Group A. All they had to do was win or draw against a team the USA had battered, 4-0, just a few days earlier.
This is soccer, though, and crazy stuff happens sometimes, like Colombia changing out 10 of their starters and leaving James Rodriguez, David Ospina, Carlos Bacca and Juan Cuadrado on the bench.
This allowed Costa Rica to put in their best performance of the tournament and reminded us that a lot of these Costa Rican players have World CUp knockout round experience. They weren't going to be rattled by Colombia.
Johan Venegas had a great game, scoring a wonder goal in the second minute and setting up a Colombia own-goal. "Johan Venegas: American hero" is not a phrase we thought we'd be using today, but here we are.
