Why Do Soccer Players Keep Cheating On Their Taxes?

So Fabio Cannavaro appears to have cheated on his taxes. If we're to believe recent media reports. 

The former Italian captain (Italy won the 2006 World Cup with Cannavaro as the skipper) and World Player of the Year is reportedly under investigation for tax fraud between 2005 and 2010.

Cannavaro has had assets worth about 900,000 Euros seized by authorities in connection with a tax investigation into a luxury boat business Cannavaro ran with his wife, according to Sky Sports.

Apparently, authorities believe this company was a sham so Cannavaro could avoid paying over one million Euros in taxes.

Investigators said the company’s boats, supposedly for rental, were actually used by Cannavaro and his wife for personal use.

This revelation comes just weeks after an appeal by Lionel Messi was denied concerning a tax-evasion case.

Fabio Cannavaro is rich. Lionel Messi is rich. So why are they cheating on their taxes?

It’s an interesting question, and points back to the “disease of more.” Once a person gets money, they want more. The more money a person has, the more they want. It snowballs and people who are already loaded end up doing illegal things so they can be even more loaded.

Don’t get me wrong, if I had the financial means to just jaunt around on a yacht whenever, I wanted I would do whatever it took to protect those means. I see where Cannavaro is coming from, here, but come on man, just do your taxes.

You can afford a fleet of luxury yachts. You can afford an accountant. Accountants are an expense, sure, but they cost a hell of a lot less than 900,000 Euros.
