Samantha Bee is the latest late-night TV host to join the debate on equal pay for men’s and women’s soccer players.
On Wednesday night’s episode of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, the eponymous host used her final segment (above) to make a quick argument that the USWNT should be paid equal to or better than the USMNT, which currently is not the case.
“That’s like hearing the lead actress of a show got paid less than her male costar,” Bee said while showing a picture of Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo and Clint Patrick Dempsey. “Or, let’s say if a bunch of late-night shows hosted by women got canceled despite the fact they were critically acclaimed and they were amazing anyway.
“I’m not crying, you’re crying.”
Bee joins other late-night hosts like Trevor Noah in the ongoing debate on equal pay. It’s a difficult subject, as we’ve discussed, and one on which everyone has his or her own opinion.
Noah has had his share of time in the U.S. soccer spotlight, hilariously commenting on the USWNT’s 13-0 win over Thailand and having the greatest goal scorer in the history of international soccer, Abby Wambach, on the show as a guest.
In the inspiring words of Bee: “Keep kicking ass ladies, but also kick the ball that goes across the field and into the goal — home run!”
