Attendance In MLS And Liga MX — A Ranking With The 46 Teams From Both Leagues

How many people go to MLS and Liga MX games? Well, there is an answer. And inspired by a post on Reddit, we checked and re-checked the data to create a ranking in which we included the 46 teams playing in both leagues.

Cool? Sure.

The sources for the info are the official MLS and Liga MX websites, while we added the capacity of all of the stadiums involved in the sample to give an extra layer of comparison. We were not nerd enough to include the population of every city where those stadiums are located because we also have a life outside of this.

In general terms, MLS has a slight advantage over Liga MX regarding average attendance with 20,815 spectators per game, while Liga MX's average stands at 19,034.

It's worth mentioning that Liga MX has a couple of factors limiting ticket sales: 1) there are still some health protocols related to Covid-19 in place — something that changes week by week — and 2) the violent incidents between fans from Querétaro and Atlas last March.

As a consequence of the second point, Querétaro can't have fans in La Corregidora Stadium — which explains its 0 spectators per game — while some other games have been played without away supporters to avoid new acts of violence.
