Dani Alves sexual assault accusation
Several media outlets reported on Monday that an unnamed woman had filed a formal complaint against the 39-year-old player relating to an incident at Sutton, a well-known club in the Spanish city, on the night of Dec. 30.
The Catalan police confirmed the existence of an "ongoing investigation" involving Alves.
According to reports, the woman alleges Alves touched her inappropriately under her clothes and without her consent in the establishment's bathroom.
People close to the investigation also say there's CCTV footage in which you can see Alves in the club and entering the bathroom immediately after the woman goes in. Forty-seven seconds later, both exit the services with the woman bursting into tears.
Dani Alves flew to Mexico 24 hours after the formal complaint was filed to join Liga MX side Pumas for their preseason training sessions, and from there, he recorded a video for Y Ahora Sonsoles admitting he was in the club but denying the sexual assault accusation.
"I was there with my people. Enjoying. And everybody that knows me knows that I love dancing. I was dancing and enjoying my time without invading the space of others," he said. "I don't know who this miss is. I went to the bathroom and didn't ask who was there, but I have never invaded someone else's space. How could I do this to a woman? No, God, no."
In the clip, Alves also asks to stop the accusation because it's harming everybody around him.
And one of those affected is Dani Alves' wife, Joana Sanz. The Spanish model erased her profile on Instagram once the accusation came to light.
