The Breakers, from what I understand, had been behind on league payments for long time and #NWSL owners kept letting it slide to keep the team afloat. I think Breakers folding says something about the changing make-up of league ownership.

The NWSL now has nine teams: Sky Blue FC, Orlando Pride, Chicago Red Stars, North Carolina Courage, Portland Thorns, Seattle Reign, Houston Dash and Washington Spirit.
