Leverkusen won the game 5-0, their most dominating performance so far this Bundesliga season. Much of their success this season has been due to the acquisition of Hernandez, who has been in the form of his life for the German club. He was also named Bundesliga player of the month for November.
Hernandez now has 18 goals in 21 games for Leverkusen this season, 10 of which he scored in the Bundesliga. He scored and recorded his first assist of the season mid-week in the DFB Pokal.
Chicharito
Chicharito joined Leverkusen this summer after a falling out with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, who first loaned Chicharito to Spanish club Real Madrid, then sold him to Bayer Leverkusen. In a twist of irony, Hernandez has outscored Manchester United through the last 12 games.
Bayer Leverkusen sit fifth in the Bundesliga, tied with fourth-place Wolfsburg on points with 26, but behind on goal differential. They're 17 points behind first-place Bayern Munich, and still alive in the DFB Pokal and UEFA Europa League.
