A couple months ago, Chucky Lozano was kicked out of training, with the Mexico international looking like he was on the outs at Napoli. Two games into the 2020-21 Serie A campaign, however, he looks to be an integral piece in Gennaro Gattuso’s side.
Hirving Lozano played 84 minutes and helped create both goals in Napoli’s season-opening win shutout over Parma last week. This week, he scored a brace as Napoli demolished Genoa 6-0 on Sunday.
Last season had plenty of ups and downs for the former Pachuca star. He scored in his debut in Serie A (against Juventus no less) but found the back of the net just three more times in league play and once in seven Champions League appearances.
But Lozano has been a positive influence in Napoli’s first two matches of the season. On Sunday, he opened the floodgates for a resounding victory.
The first of two Chucky Lozano goals vs Genoa was his first of the season and came 10 minutes into the match. Dries Mertens picked out the Mexican winger at the back post with a beautiful ball; Chucky did just enough to get the ball over the line.
Chucky’s second made it 4-0 in the 65th minute.
Played in wonderfully — again by Mertens — the winger couldn’t help but score just one minute before Gattuso subbed Lozano out of the match.
Napoli went on to score two more to complete the big win, which shot the side up to first place in Serie A, albeit after just two games.
Juventus will have to beat AS Roma by at least 5-0 later Sunday if it wants to end the weekend on top of the table.
