Washington Spirit defender Crystal Dunn had every right to be down on herself, to turn in a bad performance for her club. It was less than two weeks ago that she had been told that she would not be a part of the USWNT going to the World Cup in Canada this summer, after all. She had missed out on a dream, but instead of wallowing in sorrow, she let USWNT manager Jill Ellis know exactly what she would be missing.
From her position in defense, Dunn scored two goals against Sky Blue FC, and earned herself NWSL Player of the Week honors.
Dunn had this to say of her performance over the weekend:
“I love it. I tell everybody I was always a midfielder at heart. To me it’s natural. Getting the ball and facing up is something that I feel like I was kind of born with.”
“I don’t really go into these games thinking I have to score to have a great performance. My role on this team is I guess to cause havoc. I really enjoy playing my role and the team works great around me and I work hard for the team.”
Dunn and the Spirit will face the Seattle Reign next, on Saturday, May 2nd, at 10:00 p.m. EST.
