Maybe Majeed Waris of FC Lorient was mad that his team had just been scored on with a flying scissor kick. Maybe he was particularly mad at Jimmy Briand, the EA Guingamp forward that scored it. Maybe he was just mad that he got dragged to the ground and the ref didn’t make a call. Whatever the case, Majeed Waris proceeded to pull off the worst slide tackle we have ever seen, not in terms of the damage it did, but in terms of how cynical it was.
A part of me wants to feel for Waris; in the full highlights which you can watch here (if only Ligue 1 allowied us to show them here) it does appear that he was actually pulled down from behind when attacking opposition’s defense. But that is no excuse to turn to the nearest defender, not even the one who pulled him down, and attempting to break his legs with a slide tackle.
The weird thing is he doesn’t even seem that pissed off immediately after the tackle...
...well for a second anyways. As soon as he gets shown a red card, he starts yelling and shoving anyone within striking distance. He tops it all off with a vicious kick to what we hope was an inanimate object once he gets to the sideline.
It turns out getting a red card can make you more angry than thinking you were pulled down and not having the whistle blow. Who knew?
