Iker Casillas, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper with Spain and three-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, suffered a suspected heart attack during a morning training session with Porto on Wednesday.
Casillas, 37, was taken to a local hospital in Porto and is in stable condition and “out of danger.”
Casillas is one of the all-time winningest players in the history of football. He captained Spain to the country’s first World Cup trophy in 2010, which was book-ended by two European Championships. He’s made 167 appearances for La Furia Roja, ranking seventh all time (first in Spain).
He made more than 700 appearances with Real Madrid, winning three Champions Leagues and five LaLiga titles. Now with Porto, Casillas, who turns 38 on May 20, continues to add to his record 177 Champions League appearances.
