New Manchester City manager Pep guardiola is reportedly hunting for a new goalkeeper even though his current keeper, Joe Hart, is England's number one and viewed by most as perfectly servicable and by some as very good.
Pep Guardiola, though, is right. Joe Hart is much better at looking like a caricature of Prince Charming than he is at minding Manchester City's net. Hart is not an elite goalkeeper. He is barely a good one, but for whatever reason everyone has decided to pretend the sun shines out his a** and move on. This drives me to "A Beautiful Mind" levels of conspiracy theorism and insanity.
What's crazy is Hart has won four Premier League Gold Gloves. That means after four different seasons folks decided Joe Hart had been the best keeper in the Premier League. That, my friends, is lunacy considering Petr Cech and David de Gea were both in the league during that time.
The worst part of Hart's game is his play off his line, the sort of thing that Manuel Neuer has become the best keeper in the world by doing well. Hart is awful at it, which explains why Pep Guardiola seems to be searching for a new goalie as fast as humanly possible. Just watch this video.
And don't say Joe Hart is a "shot-stopper." Every goalie is a "shot-stopper." That's literally the job description.
The thing that amazes me, and the crux of this article, is it took Pep Guardiola coming to Manchester City for folks to think that maybe Hart isn't all he's cracked up to be. Sometimes the thing that separates an elite soccer manager from the general public is the ability to notice very obvious things. That appears to be the case in Manchester.
