After denying itself the league title last week following a 2-2 draw with Strasbourg, PSG traveled to second place Lille today with another shot at securing the crown with a victory or draw. They would achieve neither result, ultimately playing for 49 minutes down a man following Juan Bernat’s red card and losing 5-1.
To let the title slip, PSG would have to lose all seven of its final matches and Lille would have to win all six of its remaining games, and that’s not going to happen.
But still, this was the heaviest inflicted defeat of the club’s season, and it came with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Julian Draxler, Marco Verratti, Thomas Meunier and Thiago Silva in the starting eleven.
The lack of a cutting edge in PSG’s play was apparent in Lille’s first goal, which was an own goal scored by Meunier.
But PSG would equalize in the 11th minute through Bernat. He gets the goal, but it’s Mbappe’s assist that’s must-watch. He’s got seven assists to go along with 27 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances.
But it would all come undone following Bernat’s foul as the last defender in the 36th minute. Lille would score four straight from there.

PSG’s next attempt at the title is on Wednesday against 15th place Nantes. Neymar was not included in today’s squad but there’s a chance that he could make his return in that one.
