Nigel de Jong, a former Dutch international whose most famous moment on a football pitch was when he kicked Xabi Alonso in the chest in the 2010 World Cup final and somehow didn't get sent off, has officially moved from Galatasaray in Turkey to Mainz in Germany.
Deal @NDJ_Official hat bei #Mainz05 einen bis zum Sommer 2018 datierten Vertrag unterschrieben. Herzlich Willkommen Nigel!

This will be de Jong's second spell in the Bundesliga. He spent 2006-2009 with Hamburger SV. He has also played for Ajax, Manchester City, AC Milan and the LA Galaxy. Primarily a defensive midfielder, de Jong is actually a decent player when he's not coming in extremely late on tackles or performing other such nonsense, but mostly it's nonsense. Players on other teams in the Bundesliga may want to invest in ankle guards.
