Moves like the rabona are usually the domain of the Lionel Messis and Cristiano Ronaldos of the world. In the past, Pele and Socrates might have tried the trick.
But a defender? And a Swedish one no less?
Perhaps it’s a sign of how dominant Celtic have been this season under Brendan Rodgers — they’ve won 28 domestic matches in a row and have yet to lose in the league or domestic cup competitions in 2016-17 — but Mikael Lustig tried the trick during the Hoops’ come-from-behind win at St. Johnstone on Sunday.
With the rabona, which completed a sequence of 25 passes, Lustig assisted on Celtic’s fifth and final goal in the 5-2 victory, the third of striker Moussa Dembele’s hat trick. Dembele scored his goals after coming on as a second-half substitute.
Lustig told the Scottish press this week that he wouldn’t have tried the trick had his side not been up 4-2 at the time.
