Notwithstanding certain Barcelona fans, the general soccer public is relieved that they dodged a bullet they didn't even know had been fired at them just more than 30 years ago: Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the bright lights (in both his play and his hair) in soccer almost didn't come into being.
In the new documentary about Cristiano's life, "Ronaldo," the star's mother revealed she considered aborting the zygote that would go on to win three (and counting) Ballon d'Ors. Ronaldo is the fourth child of Dolores Aveiro, who was dealing with her husband's alcoholism issues at the time.
The elder Ronaldo later passed at the age of 52.
“I wanted to have an abortion but God did not want that to happen. Cristiano was an unwanted baby but he’s given me so much joy,” Ronaldo's mother said in the documentary.
“He was a child I wanted to abort. We laugh about it now and he says, ‘Now I am helping you all’. ”
