Tyler Adams will be out on the sidelines, again.
Tyler Adams out for start of season after back surgery
U.S. men’s national team player Tyler Adams is set to miss the start of the 2024-25 season with Premier League club AFC Bournemouth after having to get surgery in light of a 'detrimental participation’ in the 2024 Copa America.
Tyler Adams will miss start of the season after back surgery, got worse in Copa América as @sistoney67 reports.
“It’s difficult to say how long but he won’t be fit for the start of the season. But September? October? I don’t know…”, says Andoni Iraola. pic.twitter.com/aAs5Hd06Cr— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 20, 2024
According to reports, Adams need to have back surgery just days after the USMNT’s group stage exit in the tournament. Adams started every game for the United States in the Copa América, forced to be a substitution at the end of the first half in the first two games.
The 25-year-old had physical problems at the end of the Premier League campaign and despite not being fully fit for the Copa América, the overload of minutes in the tournament reportedly made the injury worse.
“He wanted to play Copa America because it was very important for him, but he had restrictions and was still in pain, so two days after they were knocked out, he had surgery. He is out for some time,” said Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.
“It is difficult to say how long but he won’t be fit for the start of the season. But September? October? I don’t know,” he added.
Adams’ most recent injury has sparked an online debate on whether or not former USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter should have started Adams in all of their matches at the Copa América. Many fans are going as far as saying this could be a career-threatening set back for the American midfielder.
Did Gregg Berhalter really have to give Tyler Adams all those minutes this summer?
He was clearly not fully fit and wanted to play for the USMNT … why did Berhalter give in?Now Tyler will have another surgery, this is NOT good!— Tactical Manager (@ManagerTactical) July 20, 2024
This is why PLAYERS should not be given the power they’re given and we’re given under Berhalter. An actual leader as manager would’ve told Tyler Adams he needed to sit

Adams, who signed for Bournemouth last summer, only played five games for the club in the 2023-24 season, with the former Leeds player missing most of the campaign due to hamstring problems.
