What’s better than soccer and beer? How about soccer and free beer.
The Washington Spirit will be offering 1,000 free beers to fans who attend Sunday’s match against the Orlando Pride at Audi Field. It’s part of the club’s introduction of Spiritville, a pregame tailgate with beer, merch, kids games and more.

Yes, please.
The Spirit have had a bit of a slow start to the season. After winning it all last year, Washington has the lowest points per game average in the league. It doesn’t help seven players were called into Vlatko Andonovski’s USWNT squad for the summer.
So to get fans out on Sunday against an Orlando club that’s also struggling (Washington is currently ninth in the league in attendance), the Spirit are debuting Spiritville, which sounds like a great time. According to the club website, here’s what you can expect from the tailgate. (For more on how to get tickets, click here.)
- Tailgate Zone: At the tailgate zone fans can enjoy a live DJ and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages ahead of the game. For July 17, the first 1,000 beers will be free to fans as a thank you for their support of their reigning champions.
- Kids Zone: The Kids Zone offers games and inflatables for kids to enjoy before kickoff.
- Get in the Spirit Zone: In this area, fans can get fully ready for the game with our expert face painters and pick up their game day giveaway which will be Spirit branded sunglasses on July 17.
- Merch Zone: This is where you can get all of your favorite Spirit merchandise to represent the Spirit all year long.
- Community Zone: In the Community Zone, you can get to know our community partners who are making an impact in the Washington, D.C. region and beyond.
It probably doesn’t need to be said, but the free beers are only available to fans of legal drinking age (21 and up). And you might be able to cop free tickets if you get lucky.

Spiritville isn’t the only additional event at the Spirit-Pride match on Sunday. Senator Tim Kaine and Lidia Soto-Harmon, the CEO of Girls Scouts Nation’s Capital, will be on hand for the ceremonial coin toss. Select season ticket holders will be given exclusive access to a meet and greet with NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman, Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang and Joanna Lohman, a former USWNT and Spirit player who will also be doing a book signing at Spiritville.
Oh and there’s a great soccer game to watch as well. But you had us at free beer.
