The beautiful game showed up where you would least expect it: the bottom of the table.
Yes, it is early in the season, but a combined 3 points and -7 goal differential had the Western New York Flash and the Boston Breakers at the bottom of the table coming into the weekend, and in desperate need of a performance to hang their hat on.
The Flash got the win that they so desperately needed, and in doing so have managed to move themselves off the bottom of the table and into 8th, relegating Boston to 9th on goal differential despite being even at 3 points each.
More than the result and step up to 8th place, The Flash will pride themselves on the manner in which they scored. Their second goal in particular was a thing of beauty, a flowing move that was the result of dominant possession and ended in a clinical finish by Becky Edwards in the 62nd minute.
Edwards goal was part of a run of 3 unanswered goals by the Flash to take the game from a 1-0 comeback bid to a convincing victory. By the time Sydney Leroux put the nail in the coffin with a nice finish in the 88th minute, there was no question who was the better side on the day.
The Flash will attempt to move onto 6 points and potentially the top half of the table when they face FC Kansas City this Friday, May 8.
