Seven months ago, one of Liverpool’s most likable players went down injured in the Champions League semifinals against AS Roma. On Friday, we got an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain injury update straight from the midfielder’s mouth.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first season with Liverpool after moving from Arsenal was cut short by a devastating injury suffered last April. It cost the England man a chance to play in the Champions League final and a place at the World Cup in Russia in the summer.
The torn ACL has kept Oxlade-Chamberlain out for seven months and he’s not expected back anytime this year. Best estimates have the versatile midfielder returning late this season — perhaps in time for a return to the Champions League semifinals.
In the meantime, Liverpool released this Oxlade-Chamberlain injury update video, with the 25-year-old explaining what’s been going on in his life since tearing his ACL. Most of it has included grinding rehab, but he makes sure to support the Reds at every opportunity, just as they are supporting him.
The video shows the emotional road Oxlade-Chamberlain has been on to fully recovering. It’s hard not to feel inspired by his positive outlook on the future despite his unfortunate turn of fate, particularly missing out on reaching the World Cup semifinals with England.
While we wait for Oxlade-Chamberlain to return to the pitch, here’s a look at what he’s been up to off the pitch via his Instagram page.
