Forget The Euros, Argentina vs. Brazil Is Weekend's Big Match

RIO DE JANEIRO — Europe might be waiting for England against Italy in Sunday's Euro 2020 showpiece, but there is an even bigger match to look forward to in South America as an older rivalry between two more successful teams kicks off in Saturday's Copa América final.

Brazil against Argentina is a true clasico. The teams first met in 1914 and in the years since have established themselves as two of the most storied sides in world soccer. Together they have won seven World Cups.

Someone Translated Emi Martínez’s Trash Talk Against Colombia And Boy Oh Boy Is It Entertaining

Tuesday’s Copa América semifinal between Argentina and Colombia was the Lionel Messi show for 90 minutes. But when the game went to a penalty shootout, the spotlight shifted to Argentina’s goalkeeper, Emi Martínez.

The Aston Villa keeper chirped the Colombian players to no end and saved three penalty kicks. Some absolute legend has now provided us inferior English-only speakers with an Emi Martinez trash talk translated video.

Why You Should Watch This Summer’s Gold Cup, Plus One Reason To Not Watch

Given the number of major international soccer tournaments this summer, it’s easy to overlook the Gold Cup. Make no mistake: You absolutely should to pay attention to Concacaf’s premier competition. Here’s why you need to watch the 2021 Gold Cup and, just as importantly, how to watch Gold Cup matches on TV and streaming in the U.S.

Messi Produces One Of His Greatest Argentina Performances To Put Team In Copa América Final

When Lionel Messi announced his international retirement after missing in the penalty shootout defeat to Chile at the 2016 Copa América Final, he disappeared into the New Jersey night with the crushing final words: “For me, the national team is over. I’ve done all I can. It hurts not to be a champion. It’s been four finals, I tried. It was the thing I wanted the most, but I couldn’t get it, so I think it’s over.”

It wasn’t.

Neymar Makes No Secret Of Who He’s Supporting In Tonight’s Argentina-Colombia Semifinal

RIO DE JANEIRO - Brazil forward Neymar said he hopes Argentina will be their opponents in the Copa América final and has no doubts that the hosts would come out on top against their fierce rivals.

Brazil beat Peru 1-0 in Monday's semifinal in Rio de Janeiro thanks to a 35th minute goal from Lucas Paquetá to book their spot in Saturday’s decider at the Maracanã stadium.

The second semifinal between Argentina and Colombia is on Tuesday.

Neymar Erases 3 Defenders With One Nutmeg To Put Brazil In Copa América Final

There’s something enthrallingly stagelike about these Copa América knockout round matches behind closed doors. If Euro 2020 is acting as a celebration of the world moving forward with vaccinations, the Copa can be seen as a reminder of the pandemic’s enforced isolation mixed with unhinged personal tendencies.

Brazil Survives Chile Despite Horrible Gabriel Jesus Red Card

Brazil advanced to the semifinals of Copa América 2021 with a 1-0 win despite playing most of the second half down a man after a horrible Gabriel Jesus red card vs Chile on Friday.

Halftime substitute Lucas Paquetá scored 59 seconds after coming into the match and two minutes before Jesus was sent off for a flying kick on Eugenio Mena.

First, the beautiful side of Brazil. Moments into the second half, the Seleção combined on a wonderful team goal finished off by Paquetá.

St. Vincent And The Grenadines Play Gold Cup Qualifier With 13 Players And No Goalie

St. Vincent and the Grenadines was forced to play a Gold Cup qualifier with 13 players — 11 starters and two subs — and no goalkeeper on Friday against Haiti. To no one’s surprise, Haiti won 6-1, moving to within one win of qualifying for this summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines was the victim of reported visa issues ahead of the match in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It never helps when one side has 10 more bench players available than the other, especially when one team doesn’t have a goalie.

Brazil Is The Only Copa América Team Without A No. 24; A Judge Is Demanding To Know Why

RIO DE JANEIRO — A Rio de Janeiro judge has given the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) 48 hours to explain why none of their players at the Copa America are wearing the No. 24 shirt, with the number often associated with homosexuals in the country.

Reigning champions Brazil have registered a full squad of players for the Copa America but unlike the other nine teams none were given the No. 24 shirt, according to the plaintiffs in the case, the LGBT rights group Rainbow Citizens.

Meet Ben, The Englishman Who Doesn’t Speak Spanish Playing For Chile In Copa América

When you look at the Chile national team, one player might appear out of place. Ben Brereton is not your usual Chilean; he doesn’t even speak Spanish, the primary language spoken by the rest of the team. The English-Chilean forward had played with England's U19 and U20 national teams for almost five years before switching to Chile's squad this year for the Copa América.
