Juventus’ Defense Is Still Frustratingly Good

This isn’t exactly a hot take, but damn that Juventus defense can be impressive, even after losing two key figures from last season’s rearguard. Massimiliano Allegri has created a defensive unit that, on its day, can shut down the most potent of offenses. They don’t sit super deep or press super high, but their supreme organization dulls even the sharpest of attacks.

The Bianconeri defense pitched a ninth shutout of the season in a 1-0 blanking of league-leading Napoli on Friday at Stadio San Paolo in Naples, the home side’s first Serie A loss of the season.

Last Night, Harry Shipp Transformed Into 1970 Pele For The Sounders

Last night, the Seattle Sounders laid waste to the Houston Dynamo in the MLS Cup Western Conference final, running out 3-0 winners on the night for a 5-0 aggregate victory. It was shades of Brazil’s 4-1 triumph over Italy in the 1970 FIFA World Cup Final. What I mean by that is the final goal was a thing of supreme beauty.

Vancouver Fans Should Be Excited Over New Striker Signing

The Vancouver Whitecaps pulled off what might be one of the biggest moves of the MLS offseason on Thursday, signing Venezuela international Anthony Blondell. The striker led the Primera Division in Venezuela with 23 goals in 2017, leading Monagas SC to the Torneo Apertura title.

Anthony Blondell (pronounced blun-dell) could be a coup for the Whitecaps. At 23 years old, he’s an emerging star, having made his international debut earlier this month. His 2017 haul of 23 goals came in 33 starts and 37 appearances and many of them were impressive strikes.

Watch Miku Pass To Himself Before Scoring Brilliant Goal

Nicolás Ladislao Fedor Flores, otherwise known as Miku, spent six years at Valencia, making a grand total of two appearances and scoring exactly zero goals with the La Liga side from 2004-2010. In three matches with Bengaluru FC, Miku already has three goals, including two on Thursday. For the second, he played a pass to himself before dribbling past three defenders.

Even though Bengaluru FC lost 4-3 to FC Goa, the second Miku goal was easily the highlight of the match.

Grêmio Wins Copa Libertadores, Sparking Massive Celebrations Back Home In Brazil

Grêmio claimed its third Copa Libertadores title with a 2-1 victory (3-1 aggregate) over Lanús on Wednesday. The Gremio Copa Libertadores victory sparked a wild celebration back home as the Brazilian club rounded out the field for the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins next week.

Fernandinho and Luan both scored in the first half for Grêmio, which held on despite a red card to Ramiro in the 83rd minute.

Thank You Jozy Altidore For Sparing Us Extra Time

There are a lot of people in and around the United States who do not care for Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore. Sacha Kljestan is one. Several of them even work here at the18 dot com. However, anyone who watched the Toronto FC-Columbus Crew MLS Cup semifinal has to appreciate Altidore's work during the series, namely keeping us from having to watch any more of it.

Raheem Sterling’s Glorious 95th Minute Winner Leads To Sheer Pandemonium

Manchester City maintained their eight-point gap at the top of the Premier League table thanks to Raheem Sterling’s 95th minute winner against Southampton on Wednesday. Sterling’s ninth goal of the campaign (more than the likes of Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku) was an absolute beauty, and it continued his remarkable penchant for the dramatic this season.

32-Year-Old Wayne Rooney Has Turned Back Into 25-Year-Old Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney is already feeling the Sam Allardyce effect. Everton's creaky old prodigal son scored a hat trick in his first performance in front of the new boss. First impressions are very important, and Wayne Rooney clearly knows that.

Granted, Everton were playing West Ham who are terrible, but level of competition doesn't matter when you can do this:
