Just a day after announcing club-record signing Rodrigo on a reported $36 million deal from Valencia, Leeds United is looking to make more high-profile signings.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed right back Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a four-year contract, the north London club said on Sunday.

Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed but British media reported Spurs paid $20 million to secure the 28-year-old Ireland international.

Leeds United has completed the signing of Spain forward Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia for a club-record fee, the newly promoted Premier League side said on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has signed a four-year deal at Elland Road after Leeds reached an initial agreement with the Spanish club on Tuesday.

Chelsea have bolstered their defence by bringing in Thiago Silva, with the former Paris St Germain centre back signing a one-year contract plus an option of a further 12 months, the English Premier League club announced on Friday.

The 35-year-old Brazilian defender joins the west London club, coached by Frank Lampard, after eight seasons at PSG where he won seven Ligue 1 titles and five French Cups, making more than 300 appearances in all competitions.

LONDON — Manchester United captain Harry Maguire told the BBC on Thursday that he feared for his life and thought he was being kidnapped as he was arrested by plainclothes police officers following a fracas on the Greek island of Mykonos.

England defender Maguire was found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against public employees and insulting behaviour after his arrest in a brawl during which two police officers were assaulted.

LONDON — Arsenal are confident striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will sign a new contract which would tie him to the club for a "long time," manager Mikel Arteta said on Thursday.

Gabon international Aubameyang, 31, has been Arsenal's top scorer in each of the past two seasons and has only one year left on his current contract.

"I keep being positive, we have had some really good talks with him and his agent," Arteta told reporters in a virtual news conference ahead of Saturday's Community Shield match against Liverpool at Wembley.

Several Chelsea players have not returned for preseason training after testing positive for Covid-19, according to reports in British media.

Chelsea did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Goal reported Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Christian Pulisic are among those isolating, but could not say whether any of them have tested positive for Covid-19.
