Much to the distress of many a mother around the world, the holidays and sports go hand-in-hand like Santa Claus and whatever jolly elf is in vogue this year.
If it wasn’t for the Premier League, we can honestly say that we would have absolutely no idea what or when “Boxing Day” is. But, because of the glory of soccer, we now understand that Boxing Day is the day after Christmas, and we celebrate it by watching hour after hour of the English Premier League.
As it turns out, Boxing Day is a celebration of an old tradition in the U.K. in which the wealthy or the ruling class would give gifts to their servants the day after Christmas. It serves to honor the working class and remind everyone that the rich and powerful are capable of throwing everyone else a bone once a year.
At any rate, the English Premier League gave us all a match day this past Friday. That might hint toward a Master/Servant relationship, between the fans and the league, but instead of getting all revolutionary, we made a top 10 list.
So, with no further ado, here are the top 10 goals scored on Boxing Day 2014.
10. Ryan Bertrand - Southampton vs Crystal Palace
