Benfica obliterated Maritimo Wednesday, winning 6-0 in the Premeira Liga match. One of the six goals was scored by 24-year-old Mexican forward Raul Jimenez, and another was assisted by him.

Jimenez now has six goals for Benfica this season, five since the start of November. This suggests he's finally rounding into the form that made Benfica want him in the first place, and made Atletico Madrid move him across the Atlantic from Mexico.
Benfica sit second in the Premeira Liga table with 37 points, four behind leaders Sporting CP and tied on points, but ahead on goal differential, with Porto after Porto's tie against Rio Ave Wednesday.
Admittedly, Maritimo aren't the strongest of competition, but if Jimenez can keep scoing like this against the stronger Portuguese clubs and in the Champions League, he could be back on track toward the bright career many envisioned for him when he left Mexico.
If his New Year's resolution was to score more goals, he's keeping it so far.
